Donny van de Beek rules out January move to Real Madrid
Ajax midfielder Donny van de Beek has insisted that he won’t part ways with Ajax at the midway stage of the campaign. The Netherlands international was heavily touted to join Real Madrid last summer but he eventually made the decision to stay put with the Dutch champions for the 2019/2020 season.
The Dutchman has since impressed seven goals across all competitions for Erik ten Hag’s side and there have recently been claimed that Los Blancos may revisit their interest at the turn of the year. However, speaking to Voetbal, Van de Beek dismissed the prospect of leaving the Eredivisie holders in January and stated that Los Blancos are aware of the same, he told: “I will finish the season at Ajax. At Real Madrid, they already know that. I do not like to change teams midway through the season.”
Ajax saw the departure of a number of key players including Frenkie de Jong, Matthijs de Ligt and Kasper Dolberg during the summer but they have managed to replace them with the quality players through their impressive scouting network. They are currently at the top of their league standings ahead of PSV Eindhoven on goal difference and they are bound to face another strong challenge after winning the title by a margin of just three points last term.
Meanwhile, they have been pitted in a group of death in the Champions League with Chelsea, Lille and Valencia involved. So far, the Amsterdam giants have excelled with six points from the opening two games against Lille and Valencia where they have kept clean sheets but they have a tougher test after the international break with a double header against Chelsea. The Blues are widely regarded as the favourites from the group to progress. They are currently three points behind Ajax after the opening game defeat to Valencia.
