Timothy Fosu-Mensah joins Crystal Palace on a season-long loan

Dutch footballer Timothy Fosu-Mensah has joined Fulham on loan for the whole of the 2018/19 campaign. The Netherlands international had a good pre-season with Manchester United in the United States but he has nevertheless taken the opportunity to join the Cottagers after failing to receive assurances of gametime under Jose Mourinho.

“I have a good feeling about the Club. It has a nice history, it’s a nice Club. Fulham has a lot of good players, and it’s good for my development to be here. I spoke to the Manager and he gave me a good feeling. I’m happy to be here and I want to keep progressing,” he is quoted as saying by Fulham’s official website.

During pre-season, Fosu-Mensah competed with Matteo Darmian for the right-back spot with Antonio Valencia on the sidelines. As a result, United supporters were in belief that the Dutchman could finally make a mark with the Red Devils but this has simply not been the case with Mourinho deciding to keep hold of Darmian for the back-up role.

Despite this, there are plenty of positives for Fosu-Mensah, who gets the opportunity to regular first-team football and his chances should be enhanced by the fact that he has feature in multiple positions. Aside from his preferred holding midfield role, the Dutchman has also featured in central defence and right-back in the past and his versatility could be handy for the Cottagers, who are keen on making a statement on their return to the Premier League.

Aside from Fosu-Mensah, the west London outfit have acquired the services of nine other players during the ongoing transfer window and on paper, they look a good bet to complete for a top half of the table finish. The Capital outfit entertain cross-town rivals Crystal Palace in their first game of the Premier League campaign this weekend.
